Focusing on foundational literacy components—phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, and connected text—administrators will gain insights into what quality teaching of these skills looks like in the classroom. At South Houston Intermediate, a school with almost 50% EB students, we recognized a need for adjustments to continue and grow upon our great success on TELPAS. The plan included educating the staff and utilizing resources such as Enriching Students to design a four-week, whole-school approach to preparing students for the test.
