Bridging the Gap: How Schools Can Support Speech Therapy Amid a Growing Need OPEN
Thursday June 5, 2025 1:00pm - 1:50pm CDT
The demand for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) is rising at an unprecedented rate, with Texas seeing a projected 31% increase in SLP job openings. This growth is tied to the increasing number of special education students, up 46% since 2018, with nearly half requiring speech services. As the need expands, campus administrators play a crucial role in adapting service delivery models to ensure students receive the support they need while maintaining a sustainable system for SLPs. This session will explore how Pasadena ISD is addressing these challenges through collaborative service delivery models, viewing speech impairment as an integrative service rather than a separate intervention. By maximizing available resources and fostering a strong support system for both SLPs and students, schools can navigate the growing demand effectively.
